I have
great pleasure in introducing Dr. O.P. Kapoor,
the editor of this monograph. He is a senior
consultant physician. Till 1987, he was professor
of medicine at the Grant Medical College and J.
J. Group of Hospitals, Bombay. He opted for
retirement at the age of 55,but continued to be a
visiting consultant at Bombay Hospital Institute
of Medical Sciences and Jaslok Hospital and
Research Centre.
As a
medical author his academic contribution to the
medical literature is comprehensive and
extensive. His guides for general practitioners
are being read by over 1 lakh practitioners all
over India. The hall-mark of his academic career
was the publication of his masterly monograph on
"Amoebic Liver Abscess" for which he
received excellent reviews from the medical
journals all over the world and it has now been
cited in the prestigious Oxford Text book of
Medicine as a reference book for further reading.
His book on "Common Chronic Disease Patterns
in Arabian Gulf,Saudi Arabia and Yemen" has
been not only recommended to all expatriate
doctors working in Gulf countries but the local
Arab doctors consider it an encyclopaedia in day
to day practice. As the editor of the Bombay
Hospital Journal, he is also responsible for
revolutionizing and bringing the journal to the
international standard. He is the author of the
famous "Kapoor's Family Medical Guide"
which has been brought out in Hindi and Urdu
Editions also.
The author,
a gifted teacher, has become a living legend in
the city medical colleges. He was a recipient of
the prestigious Dr. B.C. Roy National Award for
"Eminent Medical Teacher" in 1981.
